Join POP masters Jessalyn & Glen for an incredibly fun workshop featuring high flying Icarian skills and flowing sequences! What is Icarian, you ask? It is a spectacular display of human juggling! The human body becomes catapult and catcher in an elaborate, explosive and highly skilled presentation of strength, balance, and agility. Plus, it’s ridiculously fun! Learn to LAUNCH and BE LAUNCHED in this unique workshop that anyone who can base or fly basic to intermediate Acro is invited to attend.
We will explore the following skills:
F2F pops with and without rotation
Straddle throne tempo pops and spins
Bird to throne and reverse straddle throne pops
Tuck and whip dismounts
We will include ample time for repetitions and refinements of the progressions and skillsets presented, allowing students to leave with a clear understanding and grasp of the material. We will also teach intelligent, effective spotting techniques to make these pops safe and accessible.
** Pre-Requisites **
Ability to base or fly pops from bird to throne and back with hands connected, as well as experience basing or flying reverse throne, foot to hand, and foot-to-foot. If these skills are new to you or you have any questions about whether or not you should join in, please message us!
Jessalyn began flipping and flying at a very young age in gymnastics and cheerleading, and she fell in love with partner acrobatics while in grad school in Los Angeles in 2008. She has since studied across the country with teachers of Dutch Acrobatics, AcroYoga, sports Acro, circus acrobatics, cheer stunts, flying trapeze, and aerial arts. She graduated from Pitch Catch Circus School, as well as Acro Revolution Teacher Training, and continues to train, teach, and perform in her new home, New York City. In addition, Jessalyn is the proud founder of Indiana's Acro community, Indy Acro Yoga. She is also a certified yoga teacher. Her love for acro and for her students comes across in her joyful, authentic, and encouraging teaching style.
Glen evolved from sixteen years of Taekwon Do, to yoga, to his true calling: acrobatic yoga, icarian, and partner acrobatics. After being introduced to L-basing as part of his 200hr vinyasa teacher training in NYC, Glen has averaged three hours of daily training in acrobatics and acro yoga, and left his job to pursue training and teaching full-time in 2016. He has trained, travelled, and taught in the US, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina and in April 2016 spent a month training higher level standing acrobatics and tumbling at Pitch Catch Circus with Niko Douwes and Cassie Drew. He loves sharing how to make movement almost effortless and creating art with bodies while laughing throughout the learning process.
